Mindful Self-Compassion Short Course

Mindful Self-Compassion Short Course (MSC-SC) is an abbreviated version of the MSC 8 week course created and adapted by Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr.Christopher Germer for those in need of a shorter time commitment. It draws from the larger MSC program which consists of 24 hours of practice and teachings versus the 9 hours in the short course.

The Mindful Self-Compassion Short Course offers a fundamental understanding of Mindful Self-Compassion and incorporates key topics, experimental exercises, short discussions and informal practices which are simple and easily applicable during daily life when unexpected stress or struggle occurs.

It draws heavily on Mindfulness which can inspire self-compassion.“When we are suffering and feel the urge to help ourselves, we’re experiencing self-compassion. Self-compassion is a healthy and natural response to the suffering.”(Germer, 2009).  With kind attention and acceptance, we can offer ourselves tenderness and love no matter how difficult life can be at times.

The Short Course is a 6 Session Program which covers:

  1. What is Self-Compassion?

  2. Practicing Self-Compassion

  3. Discovering your Compassionate Voice

  4. Self-Compassion and Resilience

  5. Self-Compassion and Burnout

  6. Making it Count.

Testimonials and Evaluations of the recent Short Course have shown a positive effect on overall well-being, including greater self-awareness of moments of suffering and an enhanced ability to respond with kindness and care versus criticism or harsh judgment.
